A House Somewhat in the Air

The house needed raised just two more inches before it would be ready to slide onto the new foundation. Two inches; we were so close. The jack broke. After everything that has happened to postpone the house project, it seemed as if another delay would be impossible, but it happened. They got it working again after a while, but brought in a new jack today. They have it directly over the foundation, and are ready to lower it in place as soon as some supporting walls are built.

Everyone is really liking how the house sets in the yard. You can't see it all that well from these pictures; we'll have to get some better pictures.

A little piece of trivial knowledge: What did they use to move the house before they used these....

Ivory dish soap!

Seriously, one of the guys told us that they would wash a bit of the beam off, squirt some ivory on, slide the house about a foot, and repeat. He said that it actually worked really well, possibly even better than the rollers. He also said that they did a test once where they took a house and moved it using Ivory, and twelve men could push the house. They took another house and used a different dish soap, and fifty men couldn't budge the house.

Any ways, just thought you'd fined that little fact interesting.
