The blog and our addition to the house that is.
This weekend we started taking down our big red barn. It is hard to see that old barn go, we suspect it was original with the farm and the house was built in 1890. I have put some photos on our web album to show some of the ornate features of this old barn.
When we first moved here I did some research regarding the type of barn this is and the only thing I found to describe it was a "timber barn". The only cut lumber in the building were the 2x4 used for the roofing trusses and to nail the siding too. The rest of the barn was constructed from timber and much of it still has the bark on it.
The barn is the first step in doing the addition to our house. The plan is to put in a new foundation, move the house back on the property about 34 feet put on an addition with another bath, laundry room and dining room. There will also be a garage added at the same time. We will be posting photos as this project moves along.
